Its an important matter。The article is full of matter。 It is a matter of no laughing。
D the importance of a broad education should not be overlooked,许多学生看到overlooked该单词时,会根据已有的词根词缀拆分单词的方法,讲over-前缀理解为过度过多从而将 overlooked理解为高看的导致和正确选项擦肩而过。

Most parents would probably be extremely grateful to be shown an easy way to inSffll into their children an appreciation of the value of money and a better understanding of how to make it,According to somecrities, they can find the answer by reading a new bestselling book by financial wizard Robert T. Kiyosaki.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad has the title of a novel rather than a how-to treatise, and indeed, much of the book is written in story form. Its central theme is summed up by the subtitle “What the Rich Teach Their Kids about Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not.” The author also strongly disparages the tendency ofmost people to work for money rather than “ letting money work for them”.
Kiyosaki illustrates his point in the first part ofthe book by narrating a story based on his childhood experiences, The title refers to the author's own highly educated father, the “ poor dad” who always had to work hard to meet the family's and the “rich dad”, a neighbor who had dropped out of high school but those financial acumen turned him Into a multhnillionaire. whose financial acumen turned him.
The book has generated its share of negativefeedback. For one thing, some reviewers have lashed out against its anti-education slant. All a free, though, that Kiyosaki is sound on the need to shake off a fearful, conservative mindset in order to make it big financially.

It is unwise to put all eggs in one basket.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that we need to have a plan B when we are doing important things. As a famous proverbs goes, it is unwise to put all your eggs in one basket. This saying obviously aims to deliver the message that in order to avoid possible failures and setbacks, we ought to make adequate and flexible preparations.
Nobody can be certain of what is going to happen in the future; therefore, we all need to have different plans and prepations in case of undesirable outcomes. Then, the losses and risks can be tremendously reduced. For instance, a decade ago, chinese stock market was extremely profitable and made numerous people millionnaires just overnight.
One day, my uncle came to my home and he intended to borrow money from my parents. He promised that he would return the money plus the interest in two years. But my father was dicreet and he only loaned him a few. Then, he deposited some in the bank, invested some in the national bond, and spent the rest on a new apartment. Two years later, chinese stock market crashed and my uncle nearly lost all his fortune. Luckily, my father’s decision made more money for us.
To conclude, it is highly unfeasible to put all eggs in just one basket. Not only will this give rise to the unexpected and unaffordable result, but we will be inclined to be irrationale and unreasonable.

What does the author mean by saying "…"? 2. The word "…" is closet in meaning to … 3. By saying "…", the author means that … 4. According to the passage, "…" means … 5. The word "…" most probably means "…" 6. "…" means that … 7. The word "…" means … 8. The word "…" probably refers to … 9. According to the passage, "…" probably refers to … 10. By using the phrase "…", the author refers to … In the workplace, men have long had well-defined precedents and role models for achieving success. It has been otherwise for women. A good many women in the business world are uncertain about the appropriate mixture of "masculine" and "feminine" attributes they should convey by their professional clothing. The variety of clothing alternatives to women has also been greater than that available for men. Male administrators tend to judge women more favorably for managerial positions when the women display less "feminine" grooming (打扮) — shorter hair, moderate use of make-up, and plain tailored clothing. … Q: The word "precedent" (Para.4) probably refers to ____. [A] early acts for men to follow as examples [B] particular places for men to occupy especially because of their importance [C] things that men should agree upon [D] men’s beliefs that everything in the world has already been decided 2. If sufficient rest is not included in a training program, imbalance between excess training and inadequate rest will occur, and performance will decline. The "over-training syndrome(综合症)" is the name given to the collection of emotional, behavioral, and physical symptoms due to over-training that has persisted for weeks to months. It is marked by cumulative exhaustion that persists even after recovery periods. … Q: By "over-training" the author means ____. [A] a series of physical symptoms that occur after training [B] undue emphasis on the importance of physical exertion [C] training that is not adequately compensated for by rest [D] training that has exceeded an athlete’s emotional limits 3. We must recognize that environmental health issues do not stop at city limits, county lines, state or even federal boundaries. We can no longer afford to be tunnel-visioned in our approach. We must visualize issues from every perspective to make the objective decisions. We must express our views clearly to prevent media distortion and public confusion. …Q: The word "tunnel-visioned" ( Para.4) most probably means "____". [A] narrow-minded [B] blind to the facts [C] short-sighted [D] able to see only one aspect 【例2】(1995年6月passage 2) Beauty has always been regarded as something praiseworthy. Almost everyone thinks attractive people are happier and healthier, have better marriages and have more respectable occupations. Personal consultants give them better advice for finding jobs. Even judges are softer on attractive defendants(被告). But in the executive circle, beauty can become a liability. …Q: The word "liability" most probably means "____". [A] misfortune [B] instability [C] disadvantage [D] burden4. Living at home, says Knighton, a school teacher, continues to give her security and moral support. Her mother agreed, "It’s ridiculous for the kids to pay all that money for rent. It makes sense for kids to stay at home." But sharing the family home requires adjustments for all. There are hassles over bathrooms, telephones and privacy Some families, however, manage the delicate balancing act. But for others, it proves too difficult. Michelle Dfel Turco, 24, has been home three times—and left three times. " What I considered a social drink, my dad considered an alcohol problem," he explains. "He never liked anyone I dated(约会),so I either had to hide away or meet them at friends house. Q: The word "hassles" in the Passage probably means. 含有指示代词的句中,常有被考查的语汇 【例】(2003年6月Passage 1) The cult(推崇) of lecturing dully, like the cult of writing dully, goes back, of course, some years. Edward Shils, professor of sociology, recalls the professors he encountered at the University of Pennsylvania in his youth. They seemed a priesthood, rather uneven in their merits but uniform in their bearing; they never referred to anything personal. Some read from old lecture notes and then haltingly explained the thumb worn last lines. Others lectured from cards that had served for years, to judge by the worn edges … The teachers began on time, ended on time, and left the room without saying a word more to their students, very seldom being detained by questioners … The classes were not large, yet there was no discussion. No questions were raised in class, and there were no office hours. Q: By saying "They seemed ‘a priesthood, rather uneven in their merits but uniform in their bearing …’"(Lines 3-4, Para. 4 ), the author means that ____. [A] there is no fundamental difference between professors and priests though they differ in their merits [B]professors at the University of Pennsylvania used to wear black suits which made them look like priests [C] professors are a group of professionals that differ in their academic ability but behave in the same way [D] professors are like priests wearing the same kind of black gown but having different roles to play 2. No man ever looks at the world with pristine(未受外界影响的)eyes. He sees it edited by a definite set of customs and institutions and ways of thinking, Even in his philosophical probing he cannot go behind these stereotypes(固定的模式); his very concepts of the true and the false will still have reference to his particular traditional customs. John Dewey has said in all seriousness that the part played by custom in shaping the behavior of the individual as over against any way in which he can affect traditional custom, is as the proportion of the total vocabulary of his mother tongue over against those words of his own baby talk that are taken up into the language of his family. When one seriously studies social orders that have had the opportunity to develop independently, the figure(这种比喻)becomes no more than an exact and matter of fact observation, the life history of the individual is first and foremost an adjustment to the patterns and standards traditionally handed down in his community. From the moment of his birth the customs into which he is born shape his experience and behavior. By the time he can talk, he is the little creature of his culture, and by the time he is grown and able to take part in its activities, its habits are his habits, its beliefs his beliefs, its impossibilities his impossibilities. Q: The word "custom" in this passage most probably means ____. [A] the concept of the true and the false of a society [B]the independently developed social orders [C]the adjustment of the individual to the new social environment [D]the patterns and standards of behavior of a community 3. Inthephrase,borrowedfromSappho,thatthesocialscientistsusetosumupthecommonperception,whatisbeautifulisgood.Inbusiness,however,goodlookscutbothwaysforwomen,anddeeperthanformen.AUtahStateUniversityprofessor,whoisanauthorityonthesubject,explains:Intermsoftheircareers,theimpactofphysicalattractivenessonmalesisonlymodest.Butitspotentialimpactonfemalescanbetremendous,makingiteasier,forexample,forthemoreattractivetogetjobswheretheyareinthepubliceye.Onanothernote,though,thereisenoughliteraturenowforustoconcludethatattractivewomenwhoaspire(求)tomanagerialpositionsdonotgetonaswellaswomenwhomaybelessattractive. You have your “heant's desire” deep inside of you. There's something that you were put on this earth uniquely to accomplish. There's something that you, and only you, can do. And when you find your heart's desire, you'll have the key to unlocking your potential inevery other part of your life. You'll have the key to happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment and the joy that's your natural birthright. Take Some Time to Determine Your Ideal Lifestyle Take some time to determine the kind of person you'd like to be, and the kind of person you'd have to become in order to live the kind of life that you'd like to live. Remember, you can't accomplish it on the outside until you become it on the inside. To unlock your inner potential, you must set very clear, challenging and, yet, realistic goals and then make plans to accomplish them. You need to work,step-by-step, every day, in the direction of your dominant aspirations. You need to develop an unshakable level of self-confidence that makes you virtually unstoppable. Momentum Is the Key to Long-Term Success The momentum theory of success simply says that while it may take lO units of energy to get you moving in a particular direction, it takes only one unit of energy to keep you moving once you're in motion. You have the principle of momentum working in your favor. How do you use the momentum principle in your life? Well,it's simple. Let's say that your goal is to become financially independent. To do this, you have to pay off all of your existing debts and build up a cash reserve of three to six months of living expenses. When you reach that point, your entire personality will change. You'll be more clearheaded, you'll be more positive, you'll be more determined, you'll be more optimistic, you'll be a finer and better human being when you absolutely know that you're not dependent upon anyone for your living expenses. You'll be able to choose the job you want to do and go to the places you want to go. You won't have to tolerate any situation that you do not enjoy or that you feel isn't the best use of your personal potential. If you simultaneously work on strengthening your self-discipline and using it to achieve the goal of financial independence, you'll become a better, stronger and more powerful human being. You'll cast off the bonds of helplessness and begin to feel that there's nothing in the world that you can't do or be or have. When you set clear goals or objectives for yourself, when you dream big dreams and then determine to become the kind of person who's capable of achieving the kind of goals that you want to achieve, you convince yourself, at a deep, subconscious level, that you're absolutely unstoppable. You realize at last that nothing in the world can hold you back except your own thinking, and you don't even let your own thinking limit your potential. What Beliefs Might You Have that Are Holding You Back? Each one of us has feelings of inferiority that are manifested in the conclusion that we are not good enough. We think that we are not as good as other people, and we feel that we are not good enough to acquire and enjoy the things that we want in life. Very often, we feel that we don't deserve good things. Even if we do work hard and achieve some worthwhile objectives. we believe that we are not really entitled to our successes, and we often engage in behaviors that sabotage our successes. The fact is that you deserve every good thing that you are capable of acquiring as the result of the application of your talents. The only real limitation on what you can be and have is your absence of desire. Ifyou want something badly enough, nothing in the world can stop you from getting it. if you are willing to persist long enough and hard enough. Over and over. we find that our beliefs, more than anything else, actas the brakes on our capacities. We have high hopes and dreams and aspirations, but we let doubts creep inand undermine our competence and effectiveness. The most harmful beliefs that you can have are what we call “self-limiting beliefs.” These are beliefs about yourself, most of which are not true;but they hold you back nonetheless. Sometimes you, or others, willsay that you cannot achieve certain goals because you did not get enough education. Somertimes you will say that it is because of your gender or race or age or the state of the economy. The starting point to change your beliefs is to get up the courage to question them seriously. Question your basic premises. Check your assumptions. Ask yourself, “What assumptions am I making about myself or my situation that might not be true?” It's a fact that we fall in love with our excuses and our assumptions. We fall in love with our reasons for not moving ahead. Even if someone comes along and challenges those reasons, even if someone tells you that you have the capacity to accomplish marvelous things, you will argue with him. If someone tells you that you can do far better than you're doing right now, you will come up with reasons to dispute this person's greater belief in your potential. Your beliefs about reality are based on a thousand influences, many of which began even before you were aware of what was going on. You have beliefs that are deep and beliefs that are shallow. Deep beliefs, with regard to your religion or your political party or your family, or especially yourself, are very hand to change. Shallow beliefs are easily changed. And many of your beliefs are in fact very shallow. They have nosubstance to them whatsoever. If you challenge them hard enough. you'll find that they are made of tissue paper. They'll simply blow away. You can always tell what your true values and beliefs are by looking at your actions. It isntt what you say or wish or hope or intend that demonstrates what you really believe. It's only what you do. It's only the behaviors that you engage in. It's only the actions that you choose to undertake. Your values and beliefs are always expressed in your actions and behaviors. Once you've ciearly decided on the person you would like to become. you are on the path toward developing new beliefs. You then discipline yourself each day to behave exactly as you would if you were already thatperson. That simple technique. the “act as if” technique, is extraordinarily powerful. The more you act like the person you want to be, the more consistent your attitude will be with that person's. Your attitude will havethe back-flow effect of affecting your expectations. Positive expectations will have the back-flow effect of building beliefs that are consistent with them. And your beliefs will exert an influence on your values. People succeed not because they have remarkable characteristics or qualities. The most successful people are quite ordinary, just like you and me. Most of us start off poor and confused. We spend many years getting some sort of direction in our lives. But the turning point comes when we begin to believe that we have within us that divine spark that can lead us onward and upward to the accomplishment of anything that we really want in life. 1.The key to happiness. satisfaction, fulfillment and joy is______________. 2.An unshakable level of self-confidence enables you to___________________. C) set challenging but realistic goals D) make plans to accomplish your goals 3.To be financially independent, one should________________. Social practice is gradually becoming more essential for China’s higher education. However, social practice has both advantages and disadvantages for college students. On the one hand, it provides students more opportunities to contact with the real world off-campus;Besides, it helps students to grasp some practical skills, especially communication skills, which is an essential supplement to on-campus study; Moreover, social practice can widen students’ vision. On the other hand, the negative effects can not be neglected: students’ major task is learning knowledge, while curiosity about off-campus world may distract them; Sometimes social practice is even treated unseriously and becomes a waste of time;Furthermore, the students may be faced with dangers unexpectedly. Despite the potential negative effects of social practice, I strongly support social practice for college students, since as a whole, the benefits overwhelm the likely harm. Two heads are better than one, if students, schools, and the society join hands together, social practice can be carried out more effectively and better armed students for the society can be expected. Nowadays, digital media has permeated almost every aspect of our daily life. It is changing the way that individuals, especially young people, learn, play, socialize, and participate in the society. As a result, the function of digital media has turned into a major topic for the public. Some people pay tribute to its positive role as very convenient news sources, being available almost anywhere and anytime. While some people condemn the negative influence it has brought on privacy, morality, and independent thinking, which some people used to have and enjoy. And still others have been fighting between the merits and demerits of digital media for a final conclusion. In my view, digital media is good for us students as it introduces a new way of learning which encourages more interaction and participation rather than rote learning. Besides, digital media makes it easier to produce and share things. Self employment could bring many advantages. One of the advantages of being self-employed is that the profit the business makes belongs to the owner. If the self-employed person succeeds in business, he has the chance to earn a great deal of money. The profit earned is the reward for the owner’s effort, ability and creativity. Thus, a second advantage is that a person’s intelligence and abilities have a direct effect on the earnings. A third advantage of being self-employed is that a person can control his working hours. While not all self-employed people are completely free, most of them have more control over this area than the salaried people. However, being self-employed is not without problems. First, being one’s own boss places the responsibility directly on that individual shoulders. Everyone has some weaknesses in a certain aspects. These weaknesses will affect how successful a self-employed person is. Second, though the self-employed can earn considerable profits with a successful business, losses can force them out of business and sometimes, place them in debt. A third disadvantage concerns income security. Self-employed people have no guaranteed wage. Their earnings can vary greatly, depending on business conditions. Salaried people, however, can generally count on continued earnings. In addition, salaried people often enjoy fringe benefits that mean greater peace of mind. One of these benefits may be insurance paid for by the employer that continues the employee’s salary in the event of sickness or accident while many self-employed people do not have such protection. Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage. Our culture has caused most Americans to assume not only that our language is universal but that the gestures we use are understood by everyone. We do not realize that waving good-bye is the way to summon a person from the Philippines to ones side, or that in Italy and some Latin-American countries, curling the finger to oneself is a sign of farewell. Those private citizens who sent packages to our troops occupying Germany after World War II and marked them GIFT to escape duty payments did not bother to find out that Gift means poison in German. Moreover, we like to think of ourselves as friendly, yet we prefer to be at least 3 feet or an arms length away from others. Latins and Middle Easterners like to come closer and touch, which makes Americans uncomfortable. Our linguistic and cultural blindness and the casualness with which we take notice of the developed tastes, gestures, customs and language of other countries, are losing us friends, business and respect in the world. Even here in the United States, we make few concessions to the needs of foreign visitors. There are no information signs in four language on our public buildings or monuments; we do not have multilingual(多语的)guided tours. Very few restaurant menus have translations, and multilingual waiters, bank clerks and policemen are rare. Our transportation systems have maps in English only and often we ourselves have difficulty understanding them. Never mind a crisp shirt or a firm handshake. If you want to impress a potential employer, put on a pair of spectacles。 Job hunters are more likely to be hired if they wear glasses to their interview, according to a study。 A third of adults think spectacle-wearers look more professional, while 43 per cent think they appear more intelligent。 And 40 per cent of those with 20-20 vision would consider wearing clear lenses if it would improve their chances of getting a job。 Another six per cent would put on glasses to feel fashionable, and nine per cent think spectacles make the wearer look more attractive, the study by the College of Optometrists found。 Psychology professor Cary Cooper, from Lancaster University, said: It is not surprising that businesses want to employ intelligent staff but the idea that intelligent people wear glasses is an old stereotype that has not gone away。 In fact, glasses are a poor indication of intelligence because you can have bad eyesight for a number of reasons and then choose to wear contact lenses。 It is possible that some people have more self-confidence and change their behaviour when they put on glasses, which could in itself improve their chances at interview. 1.make the most of 充分利用,尽量利用 2.neithernor 不也不,非也非 3.every other 每隔一个的` 4.other than 不同于,非;除了 5.over and over 一再地,再三地 6. now and then 时而,偶尔 7.just now 刚才,才不久;现在,眼下 8.more and more 越来越 9.more or less 差不多,几乎,大约 10.at most 至多,不超过 11.now 既然,由于 12.off and on 断断续续地,间歇地,有时 13.and so on 等等 14.all at once 突然,忽然;同时,一起 15.at once 立刻,马上;同时,一起 16.once for all 一劳永逸地,永远地 17.once more/again 再一次 18.by oneself 独自地,单独地 19.all right 好,行;令人满意的,不错的;良好的,安然无恙的 20.ever since 从那时起,自那时以来 21.ever so 非常,极其 22.or so 大约,左右 How to Keep Your Most Talented People In 1943, social scientist Abraham Maslow outlined a pyramid that showed what he called the human being's “hierarchy of needs.” 1943年,社会学家亚伯拉罕・马斯洛提出了金字塔式的人类需求层次理论。 People start with a desire for basic physiological needs: food, clothing,shelter-that's the bottom of the pyramid. Once they've achieved those, they seek safety, and then social interaction and love, and then self-esteem. Finally, at the top of the pyramid, is what Maslow called “selfactualization” -the need to fulfill one's self, and become all that one is capable of becoming. (1)In the early days of the study of management, Frederick Taylor wrote that what workers most want is high wages-which would help them fulfill their basic physiological needs. But it's fair to say today, most workers-and particularly your best workers-have made their way to the top of Maslow's pyramid. “Making a living is no longer enough,” wrote management guru Peter Drucker. “Work also has to make a life.” (2) If you want to keep good people, their work needs to provide them with meaning-a sense they are doing something important, that they are fulfilling their destiny. At the end of the day, these psychological needs are likely to be as important, and perhaps more important, than the salary you pay. (3) To keep your best people, then, you need to make sure they are Personally committed to the goals of the organization, and that they feel those goals are worth achieving. And you need to make certain they feel they are playing a suitably significant role in reaching those goals. That's a complex management challenge, not easily summed up in a few simple rules or guidelines. One good description of the complex social and psychological elements that go into creating a satisfying workplace is in Tracy Kidder's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Soul of a New Machine. Mr. Kidder skillfully records the human drama, and, ultimately, the magic that motivated a team of engineers at Data General Corp. in the 1970s to develop a new generation of computer. The Data General team worked with little formal encouragement from the company's top management. But they came to believe in what they were doing. At the end of his book, Mr. Kidder compares the people on the team to the stonemasons who bui1t the great cathedrals. Data General Corp. “They were building temples to God. It was the sort of work that gave meaning to life. That's what team leader Tom West and his team of engineers were looking for, I think. They themselves liked to say they didn't work on their machine for money. (4) In the aftermath, some of them felt that they were receiving neither the loot nor the recognition they had earned, and some said they were a little bitter on that score. But when they talked about the project itself, their enthusiasm returned. It lit up their faces. Many seemed to want to say that they had participated in something quite out of the ordinary.” That is the magic of managing talented people. 1. In the early days of the study of management, Frederick Taylor wrote that what workers most want is high wages-which would help them fulfill their basic physiological needs. Frederick Taylor wrote that what workers most want is high wages,其中包含了一个that引导的宾语从句。 in the...management介词短语作时间状语。 2. “If you want to keep good people, their work needs to provide them with meaning-a sense they are doing something important, that they are fulfilling their destiny.” 本句是一个复合句,主句是their work needs to provide them with meaning,破折号后面的内容是对前面内容的补充说明。they.. 3. To keep your best people, then, you need to make sure they are personally committed to the goals of the organization, and that they feel those goals are worth achieving. to keep your best people不定式短语作目的状语。they are...the organization是省略了引导词的宾语从句,作make sure的宾语,后面that同样引导宾语从句,作make sure的宾语。 4. In the aftermath, some of them felt that they were receiving neither the loot nor the recognition they had earned, and some said they were a little bitter on that score. They were a little bitter on that score为省略了引导词的宾语从句,作said的宾语。
